2011-04-12 - Linux Is Weird

So there I was looking into a "Linux from scratch" project when I find out that you need Linux to make Linux. That's odd I thought, I can understand needing a Linux compiler but why do I need the whole operating system? The answer to that question is of course that “Linux Is Weird”. It's not like I don't have a version of Linux, there's on that computer over there, it's just that Linux is confusing as hell. The reason I wanted to go through was to figure Linux out. To figure out what those half dozen folders mean, to figure out where all those terminal commands go, to figure out how the damn thing works. Apparently I can't do that in windows (Likely because the people who made the book are too good for windows, phish Linux snobs), but whatever it just means more work. It'd be easier if that computer wasn't so damn slow. XP is annoying to use on it but Ubuntu runs like Molasses in the winter.

Oh well, I suppose that just makes all of it a learning experience. I wanted to figure out Linux and now I have to figure out Linux in order to do the project to figure out Linux. Maybe I should try to find a less friendly more programmer based Linux distribution to do this on, something smaller and faster. The only thing I'm really going to miss about using Linux to make Linux is notepad++. Oh notepad++ how I love you. I'm only doing this until that book on programming for Window I bought arrives anyways.

2011-04-11 - Archives

So I have finally done enough of these that I feel the need to start making archive posts. Now that's not to say that they are in dusty library cellar because they are marvels of modern literature but just that they are no longer on the front page to save space.

It's weird, this post was actually supposed to be done weeks ago and talking about a fancy program I made to automatically make the archive pages, sadly I've been too busy to make both this post and that program (Although I do still plan to). This post was also to have many other topics over the past couple of weeks to replace the missing program but I've forgotten them. So I'm just going to end it here and you will all just have to wait till I get around to writing something else. That all is probably not a large number but I like to think that when I snap and kill people there will be lots of forensic people looking over this trying to find clues.

2011-03-20 - Comments

So what did I do today? Did I work on solving my problems with SPI? Did I research alphanumeric displays or anything else related to my design project? Did I read some philosophy stuff? Did I do homework? Did I do anything I needed to do? No, what I did was add comments to my site. Yes a highly productive day doing something completely useless. Things are good. Just click on the title of an "entry" and you'll be taken to its special own page with comments. You can't delete or edit them because what's said is said and you must stand behind it, also because that requires authentication and users and stuff and I'm too lazy. Maybe I’ll get around to doing it sometime later.

Oh, in case you are wondering ENG M 406 is no longer on my list. It seemed the most useful of the electives but it apparently got candled or something. Anyways I decided on a History course instead. Third time's the charm right?

2011-03-18 - A Conversation About Conversations

People suck at conversations. Now admittedly I'm not the best conversationalist but I like to think that I am at least nice about it. Other people are just completely terrible at having conversations. So I thought I'd put together a list of the things that annoy me most about talking to people.

1. Superfluous Conversations: People feel the need to talk to other people. If you see someone you know you have to talk to them right? If you're at a get together you have to talk to everyone right? Wrong, that is completely wrong. The problem being that you don't actually care. That's fair, no one says you have to care about talk to everyone you meet. Personally I prefer the reverse because at least then you're not pretending to care. Having a conversation when there doesn't need to be one is just insulting and a waste of everyone's time.

2. Small Talk: This is rather an extension of the first point but in a special way. The world conversations and the most boring conversations are the ones with no point. "Hey, nice weather we're having" "Yeah, it's pretty nice", there you have just wasted everyone's time and have said nothing of value. That was some excellent work there spreading of trivial information. If you can't think of anything interesting to say don't say anything at all.

3. Arguments: Arguments are actually good. I love having arguments with people. The problem is that most people suck at arguments as well. To have a good argument you need to both be A) detached from the subject and B) able to say things about the subject. Now that's not to say they have to be correct, bull is the best cannon fodder for a good argument. Just yell mindlessly about something no one cares about with another person for a few hours and you'll be good. It's important to remember A) though, the minute you start getting upset and defensive about a subject the fun dies. No one wants to argue with someone who gets mad because you're talking bull about his favourite subject.

4. Why does word use a different quotation mark? I mean this is the notepad++ one ", and this is word's “, look at that, what is with that?

Now I don't expect anyone to listen to these points because stupid conversations and angry arguments are the name of the game but hopefully someone will.
